Last month I received a number of emails and inquiries from nurses who have a State Nursing Board Contract, Order, or Agreement and who are having problems finding employment. I must say that more employers are becoming familiar with the documents related to discipline against the license and alternative program agreements. It may be harder for a nurse with a restricted license or an encumbered license to find employment as a nurse.
Don't despair just keep searching. Keep a journal of your employment search and consider working in a non-nursing capacity if necessary to keep the lights on in your home and pay bills. Start with reviewing your Board agreement and determine where you can work and where you are restricted from working as a nurse. Speak with your State Nursing Board monitoring agent or case manager about employment opportunities. Obtain pointers for the online nursing forums, boards, and chatrooms on employment with a restricted nursing license.
