Its coming folks. More and more nursing education programs are inquiring about and requiring full or limited criminal background checks for nursing students because clinical sites (hospitals, clinics, home care, hospice, community sites, etc.) require criminal background checks for students and externships.
In the future, more and more nursing students with criminal convictions will:
1. Have a harder time being accepted to nursing programs;
2. Not Be Admitted to Nursing Programs because of the unavailability of clinical sites;
3. Will face more difficulty with licensure depending on the State Nursing Board; and/or
4. Will face limited employment options with a criminal conviction.
