The practice of nursing is going global as more nurses are working for an employer which has multiple locations which may require nurses to become licensed in one or more states. Now if you live in a Nurse License Compact state like Kentucky you can practice in other NLC states without going through the endorsement process.
The majority of states in this country however do not participate in the Nurse License Compact and if you want to practice in a state where you don't have a license, you have to complete an endorsement application.
Okay, this may not be a big deal for the majority of nurses but for a growing percentage it is an issue if you have to disclose a criminal conviction, action against a nursing or other healthcare license, chemical dependency, mental health diagnosis, etc.
If you need a nursing license(s) in another state and you know that you will have to respond in the affirmative to one or more questions on the Endorsement Application for State Nursing Board licensure in State A, State B, State, C, or State D, talk to someone before you submit the application. Each State Nursing Board reviews this issues differently and you don't want to go in to this process with a false sense of hope that I typically see, which is "this is no big because State Nursing Board X knows and didn't do anything."
