There are benefits to being a solo practitioner with a specific client base who is willing to take risks and incorporate technology into the usually very stuffy and stodgy practice of law. My buddy Laurel Blaydes at the Center for American Nurses emailed me yesterday about ooVoo. No this isn't another typo in one of my blog posts, this one of the thousands of companies developing and offering products and services to small firms like mine.
I signed up for ooVoo yesterday and I am hooked. We tested the software with a webchat with my mother and sister here in Cincinnati, my son and his roommate here in Cincinnati, my sister and her kids in Atlanta, and my husband, the dogs, and myself in my home office. It was awesome.
Guess what? My law firm is now offering video conferences for my law office clients. I have clients throughout Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana and this will be a nice way for my clients to see me and for me to see my clients. I am scheduling video conferences with all of my clients this month. I am a road warrior and plan to continue to have face/face meetings but these video conferences will be a nice addition to the practice.
Now I just have to get used to speaking and looking into my web cam without laughing and playing in my hair.
I am also offering 15 minute, 30 minute, or 60 minute video legal consultations to nurses in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana and video workplace and career consultations for nurses in the other 47 states. I do not offer legal consultations to nurses in states where I do not have a law license; I offer workplace and career consultations through my consulting firm, Healthcare Risk Aversion Group, LLC.

Yes, there is a cost for a video conference; its the same as a telephone consultation with me.
