What is repping? http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=repping
My grandpa is hospitalized at University Hospital in the SICU with COPD and pneumonia. He was treated at Mercy Fairfield Hospital for a week before we had him transferred to University Hospital. Thank God for University Hospital in Cincinnati. The docs and the staff really do their thing when handling complex medical cases.
We wanted my grandpa to come home and we (I) was thinking home care with PT or outpatient PT at the Drake Center but he really needs to go to a SNF for pulmonary rehab and after being in the ICU for almost 15 days. It took a few days for this to settle on me because I really wanted my papa home with our family.
I sh*t you not, the medical social worker gave me a list of SNF in the Cincinnati area with 0-10 miles of our home and I immediately mentally crossed off most of the facilities. I processed the list of 40-50 SNFs in less than a minute.
After I calmed down, I later went back with my orange highlighter and for my own edification marked a sloppy left handed "X" as a thumbs down and middle finger for my own pleasure and then pitched the list in the garbage where it belonged. FYI, when I say "our home" I live within 2 miles of both sets of my grandparents (a planned decision because both sets are requiring more care and attention).
I remember my law practice cases, consultations, and inquiries by the name of the nurse first and then the facility where the nurse works or worked secondly. Even if its a inquiry or telephone consult from 6 years ago, I may not remember the name of the nurse immediately, but I know the name of the facility and I ALWAYS recall the bad and ugly about the working conditions at the facility.
I crossed off the facilties where I have represented nurses who have been termed from those facilities for whatever reason. I also crossed off facilities where I have had consultations or inquiries from nurses over the years. When you represent nurses and you do what I do for a living you get to know alot about SNF, staffing in SNFs, turnover with CNAs and nurses, and general and nursing standard of care for care in SNF.
We decided on two facilities: the Drake Center and Glendale Place Care Center. My grandfather wanted Glendale Place Care Center because one of his neighbors had a positive experience at the facility after knee surgery and we know folks who work at the facility. Not to mention, the facility is literally down the hill and around the corner from 60-70% of my family members who live in Cincinnati. I will probably walk from our house to the facility for my daily exercise.
I was comfortable with the Drake Center (which is known for its rehab) because I know alot of nurses both at the bedside and in management who work at the Drake Center or Glendale Place Care Center.
This will be my papa's last stop before coming home. Its good to a be nurse when loved ones are ill because you can spot the bad and steer clear of the ugly.
