Ohio Board of Nursing convening Committee on Practice - May 20, 2010

The Board of Nursing will convene its Committee on Practice Thursday May 20, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at the Board's offices located at 17 South High Street, Suite 400 in Columbus. The Committee, composed of Board members and chaired by Board member Eric Yoon is convened to collect information and discuss practices pertaining to the specialty of bariatrics, specifically "lap band" procedures. The Committee will review the aspects of nursing practice involved in the care of bariatric clients and related procedures and determine whether or not an Interpretive Guideline is needed to assist nurses in applying existing nursing law and rule to the specific clinical situation.

The Board's Committee on Practice is a public meeting and the Committee invites the submission of information from health care practitioners who are engaged in this area of practice and from other interested parties. Documents and information may be provided prior to or during the Committee's meeting. Submissions may be made by email to [email protected] or by US Mail to the above address. Please indicate "Committee on Practice" in either the email subject line or on the envelope.

OBN E*News 04/16/2010 - Draft Interpretive Guidelines

At its May 20-21, 2010 meeting, the Board of Nursing (Board) will discuss and  consider its approval of the Draft Interpretive Guideline: Registered Nurses Role in Emergent Intubation, and its re-approval of the existing Interpretive Guideline: The Registered Nurse’s role in the care of patients receiving intravenous moderate sedation for medical and/or surgical procedures.  The Draft Interpretive Guideline and the Interpretive Guideline are attached to this email for review and comment.  See Download IGModSedation-3 and Download Draft IG Emergent Intubation

By approving Interpretive Guidelines, the Board is not creating a new rule, rather the Board is assisting practitioners to apply existing nursing law and rules to specific clinical circumstances. 

Comments concerning either the Draft Interpretive Guideline or the existing Interpretive Guideline are to be sent no later than May 18, 2010, by either email to: [email protected] or by US Mail to the Ohio Board of Nursing, 17 South High Street, Suite 400 Columbus, OH 43215.  "Interpretive Guideline" should be indicated in the subject area of the email or on the mailed envelope.
