I can say this about the Ohio Nursing Board: no nurse or nursing program is above the law with respect to discipline and compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and Board of Nursing regulations.
This includes general RNs to LPNs to APRNs to FAANs to nursing schools and programs. If you didn't know then you may need to ask about O-HI-O as one of my cousin's "down south" says.
This is public information and available on the Ohio Nursing Board website. See for yourself. http://www.nursing.ohio.gov/education.htm#CAs
Every licensed nurse in the State of Ohio (LPN, RN, APRN, and nursing school/college administrator) should have 5 copies of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act and the Ohio Board of Nursing regulations:
1. On your nightstand in your bedroom (it will put you to sleep at night faster than you can say "3 year suspension with a five Year Consent Agreement with Probation, Permanent Practice Restrictions and a Temporary Narcotic Restriction" and you won't need the script from Doctor # 3 for sedatives);
2. In your car to review when you are stuck in traffic from those long commutes, calm you down before you go road rage, or before you do something you know you shouldn't be doing anyway;
3. In your locker at work in the event your locker is searched for reasonable suspicion, it will confuse HR, security, and your nurse manager and throw everyone off your scent. Trust me, a copy of your State Nurse Practice Act and Board regulations acts a blocker for bad thoughts and a magnet for smiles and kisses;
4. In your bathroom at home or on your outdoor patio because its soooooo relaxing to read. There is nothing like sitting in the hot tub on the deck, sipping a Bartles & James wine cooler, and reading the Ohio Nurse Practice Act and the Ohio Nursing Board regulations. Trust me, I do it and it relaxes me instantly!; and
5. Last but certainly not least. Keep a copy of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act and Ohio Board of Nursing regulations in your purse or as my great grandmother says your "pocketbook." Don't carry a purse, then stuff it in your bookbag. Always, always, always, keep a copy of your Ohio Nurse Practice Act and Board of Nursing regulations with you and on or near your person at all times. I do!!!!
Okay, in all seriousness, regardless of where you are licensed, read your State Nurse Practice Act and Board of Nursing regulations:)
