Publication for Nurses: Putting Practice into Print
Presenter: Judith Mitiguy, RN, MS - Executive Vice President, Gannett Healthcare Group (publishers of Nursing Spectrum & NurseWeek)
Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, was a prolific writer. Today, writing is a neglected area of professional development for most nurses. The reasons for this are many including lack of time, being mystified by the publishing process, and experiencing a lack of comfort with writing skills. However, it is important for nurses to write for both personal and professional reasons as it is a means to share information, increase knowledge, and achieve recognition. The benefits of writing greatly outweigh such fears.
